MAHAYIL ASIR —
Two people were killed and two others injured in a horrific traffic accident in Mahayil Asir governorate in the southern Asir region on Monday.

The fatal crash was caused by a huge truck loaded with barrels after the driver lost control of it at a traffic signal in Al-Dhars neighborhood. This led to a head-on-collision with several vehicles, which were waiting at the signal, and the truck then turned upside down, scattering barrels on the road.

The Asir Traffic Department stated that it was evident from the initial examination that the cause of the accident was the truck’s brake failure. Traffic department’s procedures related to the accident were completed and the case was referred to the competent authorities, it said in a statement.

Ahmed Al-Almai, the spokesman of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Asir region, said that three Red Crescent teams rushed to the accident scene when the speeding truck crashed with several vehicles as its driver lost its control.

One person sustained serious injury while the injury of the second one is moderate, and they were transferred to Mahayil General Hospital for treatment, he added.
