Active coronavirus cases drop sharply in KSA as recoveries surge outpacing new infections

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Thursday recorded 1,257 new COVID-19 cases, marking a slight increase in the number of infections over the past 24 hours.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, 12 more people died due to complications caused by the virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 497,773 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,933.

According to the ministry, a total of 1,484 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 478,127.

The Riyadh region reported the highest number of new cases with 319, followed by the Eastern region with 277, the Makkah region with 252, and the Jazan region with 94 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just one of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 11,731 active cases and 1,385 of them were in critical condition.
