Active, critical COVID-19 cases fall sharply in KSA as recoveries outnumber new infections

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health recorded on Friday 1,298 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, marking a slight increase from Thursday’s figure of 1,165.

According to a statement from the ministry, 13 more people died due to complications caused by the virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 507,423 and the virus-related fatalities to 8,048.

The ministry also said that a total of 1,428 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 488,346.

The Riyadh region reported the highest number of new cases with 274, followed by the Makkah region and the Eastern region with 240 cases each, and the Asir region with 143 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just one of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 11,029 active cases and 1,400 of them were in critical condition.
