Saudi Arabia expresses solidarity with China over deadly floods

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has expressed solidarity with China after heavy rains and floods swept through the country’s central province of Henan, leaving dozens dead.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi foreign ministry expressed the Kingdom's sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased and the Chinese government and people, with its wishes for the survival of the missing and a speedy recovery for the injured.

At least 33 people have died in the torrential rains that have lashed the province since last weekend, with seven people missing, according to media reports.

More rain is forecast across Henan for the next two days, and the People's Liberation Army has sent more than 5,700 soldiers and personnel to help with search and rescue.

Bahrain has also expressed its deepest condolences to China over the deadly flooding.

In a statement late Wednesday, the country’s foreign ministry expressed Bahrain’s sympathy with China, extending its condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of China.
