COVID-19 active cases rise again as new infections outpace recoveries

RIYADH New coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia continued to remain above the 1,300-mark on Wednesday for the second consecutive day after a gap of three weeks, with 1,334 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health 11 more people died due to complications caused by the virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 522,108 and the virus-related fatalities to 8,200.

The ministry also said that a total of 1,079 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 502,528.

The Eastern region reported the highest number of new cases with 271, followed by the Riyadh region with 260, the Makkah region with 239 and the Asir region with 127 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just none of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 11,380 active cases and 1,409 of them were in critical condition.
