Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Nayef Al-Hajraf has welcomed the United Nations' decision to appoint the Swedish diplomat Hans Grundberg as the new UN special envoy for Yemen to succeed Martin Griffiths.

Dr. Al-Hajraf stressed the role of the UN envoy to Yemen in supporting regional and international efforts to reach the political solution sought by the Council, in accordance with the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanism; the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and Security Council Resolution 2216.

He also expressed his best wishes for the new envoy, looking forward to working with him to continue the efforts of the international community toward finding a comprehensive solution to the Yemeni crisis and achieving security and stability in the region.
