BELFAST — Chelsea beat Villarreal 6-5 in a penalty shootout to lift the Uefa Super Cup for a second time on Wednesday after a draining 120 minutes in Belfast.

The teams played out on level terms 1-1 for a pulsating 120 minutes of regulation and extra time before settling the issue via the set pieces 6-5.

For just the second time in their history, Chelsea emerged European Super Cup winners.

Chelsea opened the scoring in the 27th minute of the match by Hakim Ziyech,

But as soon as the 73rd minute came, Villarreal decided to calm Chelsea's enthusiasm by hitting the equalizer via Gerard Moreno.

The first half of the match saw a lot of attacks, as Villarreal missed the opportunity to take a penalty in the first half, but Moreno's kick hit the crossbar.

Alonso hit a powerful shot from inside the penalty area in the last minute of overtime, but it was not a successful shot.

Azpilicueta, Alonso, Mount, Jorginho, Pulisic and Rudiger scored in the penalty shootout for Chelsea.
