KUWAIT CITY —
Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Thursday said that by the end of September 2021, the vaccination rate in the country is expected to reach 70 percent.

"Some 2.6 million (66 percent) of the population is vaccinated and by the end of September we will reach 70, and this would help quicken social immunity, and eventually, returning to normal life."

The Kuwaiti premier made the remarks during an event to honor students at Sabah Al-Salem University City on Thursday.

Earlier this month, the Kuwaiti health ministry announced that more than 2.5 million citizens and residents of Kuwait were vaccinated.

The vaccination campaign in Kuwait is underway in the full swing as new coronavirus cases in the country continue to drop.

On Wednesday, the Kuwaiti health ministry recorded 424 new COVID-19 cases and 3 deaths over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections and virus-related fatalities in the country to 404,887 and 2,378.
