ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates has expressed its sincere condolences and solidarity with Algeria over wildfires tearing through northern Algeria that claimed the lives of many people, including members of the National Armed Forces, as well as caused other injuries.

The UAE's foreign ministry expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the Algerian government and to the families of the victims over this enormous loss, wishing the injured a speedy recovery, the UAE's official news agency WAM reported.

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed made a phone call to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to express his sincere condolences and sympathy over the civilian and military victims of the fires that erupted in several provinces in Algeria.

Sheikh Mohamed also expressed his condolences to the Algerian people and the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Sheikh Mohamed reiterated UAE’s solidarity with Algeria and its readiness to provide various forms of support and assistance in facing these challenges and difficult circumstances, praying to Allah Almighty for the safety of Algeria and its people.

For his part, President Tebboune expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to Sheikh Mohamed for his brotherly feelings.

Wildfires in the forested mountains of northern Algeria have killed at least 69 people since Monday, according to Algerian state media, the latest blazes to erupt around the Mediterranean during an intense heatwave that has also helped ignite deadly fires in Greece and Turkey.

Though the army has been deployed to help fight the fires, local media reported that at least 86 blazes had yet to be contained across 17 different provinces of the country.
