RIYADH — Riyadh’s citizens are excited to see the environmental and aesthetic impact of the “Green Riyadh” project, being one of the four major Riyadh projects founded by Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques King Salman in 2019.

“Green Riyadh” plans to improve city prosperity index, increase green space, increase use of treated wastewater, which have been wasted in vain.

The “Green Riyadh” project is the largest integrated and comprehensive urban afforestation project in the world.

It plans to plant 7.5 million trees at a cost of SR41 billion, and construct 43 major parks in all locations in Riyadh.

It also plans to construct 3,300 parks and gardens within 141 neighborhoods and build more sustainable water recycling systems, to be completed by 2030.

The gardens and trees will improve the city’s air quality by cutting 3-6% carbon dioxide, increase oxygen and reduce dust in the air.

The projects of water recycling system will contribute to rationalize the current waste of drinking water for irrigation at the rate of 100,00 cubic meters per day.

It also contributes to reducing temperatures by 1.5 or 2 degrees Celsius during the summer, and reduce temperatures of heat glow reflected from ground areas.

And it will improve the city’s capacity of utilizing rainwater in green areas and valleys, thereby helping mitigate the effects of floods.

All parts of Riyadh such as parks, mosques, schools, public faculties, airports and streets will be covered by the project.
