Fuel tanker catches fire in highway crash, no injuries

JEDDAH —
Quick intervention by the Civil Defense averted a major tragedy when a car crashed into a fuel tanker carrying tons of petroleum, sparking a fire on Jeddah-Makkah Expressway early Tuesday morning.

Civil Defense teams have been successful in totally controlling the fire, the General Directorate of Saudi Civil Defense said on Twitter.

The fire was caused after a tanker carrying petroleum was involved in a road accident.

The General Directorate of Civil Defense in Makkah had confirmed that ten vehicles had caught fire, but there were no injuries.



A video posted to the Makkah Region’s official Twitter account showed cars driving by a raging fire stretching across the central divide of the highway. Later, vehicles where being diverted away from the scene.
