ASIR — Al-Soudah mountain’s uniqueness is not only in the scenic beauty it affords, but the distinct temperature that sees it elegantly wearing a white snowcap over a colorful landscape. The temperature drops make the area an aesthetic wealth for photographers, creators and writers, as they get inspired from the scenes of snowy mountains amid a desert climate.

Photographer Rushoud Al-Harthy captured the snow falling on top of the Al-Soudah mountains, documenting the scenes of the mountains being covered in snow in the midst of summer.

Al-Soudah area records temperatures that do not exceed 15 degrees Celsius in the summer, while the temperatures in the winter are very low compared to the surrounding areas.

The temperature drop is what makes the climate in the Al-Soudah Mountains different than its surrounding areas and is caused by the great height of the mountains, reaching more than 3,000 meters.

Al-Harthy said that the Asir region is a destination for visitors and tourists during this time of the year and they must especially visit the Al-Soudah mountains because of its scenery and atmosphere.

He said, ”The sceneries in Asir are completely different when the temperatures drop, forming a unique and beautiful wintry atmosphere, especially with people trying to escape the heat of the summer from other low-lying areas.”

He noted that tourists are also interested in visiting the mountains during rainy and even foggy days, saying, “Especially when it rains and waves of fog form on the tops of the mountains. It is then the Asir region becomes a destination for visitors and tourists.”

The Al-Soudah mountains are also decorated with dense juniper trees, which is one of the most important constituents of the natural forests.

In addition to the cool climes, the view of the Tihama region is absolutely breathtaking with the tourists treated to the wonderful views of undulating valleys, wavy hillocks and the hospitable neighboring villages will compel the visitors to make repeat visits.
