JEDDAH — In a bid to create a lifetime of memories for the region’s fast growing population of photography enthusiasts, Canon’s latest initiative recently introduced its lightest DSLR- EOS 100 D camera.

The compact DSLR facilitates on the go photographers who are looking for something less bulky, comfortable, effortlessly fashionable and fantastic picture quality.

Canon Middle East, leader in imaging solutions, launched EOS 100D, its smallest and lightest DSLR till date to make photography easier with a compact camera easy enough to take everywhere.

At a recent event in Dubai, Canon EOS 100D fashion launch was held in collaboration with Farooq Salik, a Dubai-based Senior Fashion Lifestyle Photographer and UAE-based Abaya designer brand Malaak.

With a hands-on DSLR workshop with Salik, all media participants were taught how to use EOS 100D by participating in a fashion shoot with Malaak models.

“Through this event we have demonstrated once again that Canon imaging technology helps to unlock creative potential in everyone, regardless of whether they are a professional or an amateur enthusiast.

“The EOS 100D is the perfect tool for fashion tuned photography enthusiasts wanting to capture that front row and behind the scenes moment in the world of aesthetic beauty,” said Hendrik Verbrugghe, Marketing Director, Canon Middle East.

The EOS 100D also features ClearView II Capacitive Touch screen and is capable of shooting at speeds of up to 4fps.

Among other features, the EOS 100D offers creative pre-sets for young users, Scene Intelligent Auto mode that lets the camera decide the best combination of settings for the scene and a range of dedicated scene modes, including modes such as Kids, Food and Candlelight modes.

Salik demonstrated how the EOS 100D makes it easy for beginners to capture a range of high quality images for fashion shoots, adventure photography or irreplaceable moments with friends.

Tips and Tricks from Salik

Theme: Before even picking up a camera, ask yourself what it is you are trying to say with your photos, and what the vision for your blog/fashion shoot is? What do you want your audience to see, think, and feel? What will make your photos unique? Always create a rough sketch of what you want the end result to look like, this will define your photo shoot.

Posing: A pose for a good fashion shoot can be a tricky point to master but browse through the latest fashion lifestyle magazines to target a few inspired suggestions as well as getting a grip on what is currently fashionable. Angles: Capturing images from a lower angle – a so called frog perspective – makes your model look a little bit leaner or taller. It gives a different perspective from what you would normally see when you’re walking down the street looking at a person. Make use of the small size and weight of the EOS 100D – Canon’s lightest DSLR to capture great angles and creative frames while doing shoots related to fashion and art.

Get Creative: Express your creative side with one of the EOS 100D’s Creative filters, to add in a bit of drama and emotion in your shots. The special added shooting modes of SCN (Special Scene/Extra Effect Shot) and CA (Creative Auto) must be utilized to add life to fashion and portrait shots.

The Extra Effect Shot captures a filtered and unfiltered shot simultaneously. The extra shot serves as a backup or can be used as a template to apply image creation filters at a later time. So keep this in mind beforehand, while preparing to shoot the images.

Sports Mode = winning mode for Fashion: During a fashion and lifestyle shoot, utilize the Sports mode feature to capture fast moving objects with style and ease. This could be used in scenarios including flying accessories and props within the set.

Review: Always review your work to ensure you have captured the essence of the draft sketch you had in mind. It helps you push boundaries and learn on the go. The smartphone like gestures on the touch screen of the EOS 100D allows great zoom and preview freedom while doing fashion photography.

Capture behind-the-scenes: Add another dimension to capturing that moment using video. It’s always cool to tease your readers with a behind-the-scenes video which can be well utilized on all your digital platforms.
