G-20 speakers summit discusses response to economic and employment crisis

RIYADH — The Seventh G-20 Parliamentary Speakers Summit commenced in Rome Thursday under the theme “Parliaments for the Peoples, Planet Earth and Prosperity”, with the participation of Saudi Arabia whose delegation is headed by Speaker of the Shoura Council Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh.

Speakers of the G-20 parliaments embarked on discussing main issues on the agenda with holding the first session that addressed the response to the economic and employment crisis imposed by the global challenge of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Participants, during the session that was moderated by President of the Spanish Congress of Deputies Meritxell Batet, listened to speeches of the heads of delegations and representatives of international organizations concerned with economic development, research, European associations, businessowners organizations and small- and medium-sized enterprises.

The speakers of the G-20 parliaments also discussed means to reviving economic growth in terms of social and environmental sustainability and sustainability in the post-COVID-19 era, during the second session that was moderated by Speaker of the UK House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle. — SPA
