Saudi Arabia elected president of RECOFI at FAO for second time

Dr. Ali Al-Shaikhi, CEO of the National Fisheries Development Program and director general of the Fisheries at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, was re-elected president of  RECOFI at FAO.

RIYADH — The Regional Commission for Fisheries (RECOFI) at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) unanimously elected Saudi Arabia as president of the 11th session for three years.

Saudi Arabia is represented at RECOFI by Dr. Ali Al-Shaikhi, CEO of the National Fisheries Development Program and director general of the Fisheries at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and the elected president of RECOFI at FAO.

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture considered the election of Saudi Arabia as president of the commission a result of its prominent role at the regional and international arenas and its efforts in preserving the environment and protecting the sustainability of natural and sea resources.

Meanwhile, experts affiliated to FAO visited the fish wealth sector in the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Eastern Region to check the elements of the fish sector and enhance ways to develop the sea fish production.

During the visit which took place Tuesday, the delegates met with Director General of the branch of Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Amer Bin Ali Al-Mutiri who briefed the delegation on the elements and natural sea resources that the region enjoys, contributing to developing and sustaining the fish wealth.

He also discussed with them means to develop the fish wealth sector in a way that accords with realizing targets of Saudi Vision 2030. — SPA
