ICESCO highlights importance of enhancing investments in sciences, space technologies

RABAT — The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), in partnership with NASA, held on Monday in Rabat, the first edition of the Global Space Science Forum (GSSF) under the theme: “Exploring the Space Science Future Together," with the participation of officials at specialized international organizations, astronauts, and experts and researchers in the space science.

Chief Operating Officer at the Saudi Space Commission Eng. Majed Al-Enazi represented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the event.

During the opening session, ISESCO Director General Dr. Salim Bin Mohammed Al-Malik highlighted the importance of enhancing investments in the sciences and technologies of space.

He also called for increasing the collective awareness and building the capabilities of the youths and women to boost their participation in activities related to developing sciences of space, so as to support efforts aimed at realizing joint sustainable development goals on earth.

For his part, Al-Enazi said that Saudi Vision 2030 pays an important interest for space sciences and associated technologies through establishing the Saudi Space Commission and encouraging innovation in the field.

This is in addition to having 17 satellites for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that operates them in partnership with other countries and specialized organizations.

He also referred to Saudi Arabia's endeavors to increase awareness on space sciences, encourage scientists and researchers on innovation and developing telecommunications infrastructure.

He stressed the significance of cooperation among Islamic countries in the field to realize the sustainable development goals, improve the economies of the Islamic world countries and draft a legal framework to maintain the safety and security of space. — SPA
