DAMMAM — The Saudi Global Ports (SGP) has announced a special 50% reduction on handling fees for the import of empty containers at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.

Launched in coordination with the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI), the discount is designed to support Saudi exports and will remain in place for a period of one year.

The move comes as part of SGP’s efforts to boost the competitiveness of the Kingdom’s seaports, as well as to help increase the availability of empty containers by reducing costs for global shipping lines. In addition to facilitating more efficient exports, the tariff reduction will also support the national movement for imports, as well as mitigate the challenges presented by increased costs due to the global shortage of shipping containers.

The announcement represents SGP’s efforts to support MAWANI’s drive to bolster Saudi Arabia’s maritime logistics sector and create more attractive conditions for global shipping lines. Closely aligned with the National Transport and Logistical Services Strategy, SGP is continuously working with MAWANI on developing Saudi Arabia’s seaports to establish the Kingdom as a leading global logistics hub connecting continents. — SPA
