Korean band Stray Kids to perform in Riyadh on Jan. 14

RIYADH –
Putting an end to all speculations and anticipation of musical fans, the General Entertainment Authority Chief Turki Al-Sheikh announced on Thursday the name of the Korean band that will give a rocking performance at Riyadh Season 2 on Jan. 14, 2022.

The South Korean boy band Stray Kids will perform the concert and famous singer Kim Chungha will be among the performers, he said in a statement on his Twitter account. Tickets for the show will open for sale from Nov. 25.

Al-Sheikh had conducted a referendum among the public through a vote on his Twitter platform, in which names of four Korean teams were suggested. It is noteworthy that Stray Kids is formed by JYP Entertainment through the 2017 reality show of the same name.

The group, consisting of Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N, has wide popularity in South Korea and overseas alike. It is considered as one of the biggest bands of the fourth generation in K pop. Their second album Noeasy achieved a huge milestone with the sale of 1.22 million copies.

Saudi Arabia held concert of a South Korean band for the first time in Riyadh Season 1 in October 2019, when it hosted the popular boy band BTS at King Fahd International Stadium. In a joyous atmosphere the Korean band were thunderously welcomed by the crowd, who were left rapturous after a swinging performance. BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, was the most streamed K-pop band in Saudi Arabia. It is a seven-member South Korean boy band formed in Seoul in 2013. Originally a hip-hop group, their musical style has evolved to include a wide range of genres.
