RIYADH – Abdullah Bin Ouda, a Saudi camel owner and enthusiast, made history with clinching the largest ever camel rental deal worth SR20 million.

“Today is a historic day in every sense of the word in the world of camels. Abdullah Bin Ouda concluded the largest ever camel rental deal with Eng. Abdullah Al-Dabbous and this is for leasing some species of his camels for just 48 hours,” tweeted Fahd Bin Hithlin, chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Camel Club.

Hithlin also shared a video clip documenting the clinching of deal and Bin Ouda receiving the check for an amount of SR20 million.

“Camels will not have an economic leverage unless we treat them like children, and we neither lease them nor sell them. We must change the way we view camels, and I hope all owners will follow the example of Abdullah Bin Ouda,” Hithlin said in the statement on his Twitter account. While taking part in a television program earlier, Bin Hithlin said: “Regional competitions are coming, and prices will rise”.

It is noteworthy that camels have played an important part in Arab life down the ages and it is considered as a great symbol of Saudi heritage and culture. Camel, dubbed as the ship of the desert, continues to become a source of pride and prestige for the people of the Arabian peninsula. It has been at the center of life with playing key roles in transportation, food, entertainment and so on in the Arabian life for long period of time.
