RIYADH — Saudi Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman called on countries not to be biased and selective when using energy resources.
“This decision must be left to each country to make its energy choices based on its natural resources and capabilities,” Prince Abdulaziz said during his participation at the World Economic Forum Davos on Wednesday.
“We have to ask ourselves frankly whether we are really trying to reduce emissions of all greenhouse gases, or is that just an excuse to demand the elimination of hydrocarbons and fossil fuels,” the minister added.
He further noted that there are those who do not like to see Saudi Arabia dominant in the field of green hydrogen, but it will be, and it has the potential to have the lowest cost of production.
Prince Abdulaziz said that supplying the world with energy should take into account the preservation of energy security, as well as the use of all diverse energy sources, including hydrocarbons, fossil fuel, renewables and hydrogen.
The minister added that energy security, economic growth and economic sustainability cannot be sacrificed, stressing the necessity to consider climate change.
He also indicated that the goals of energy security and sustainable growth for the global economy, and the goals of overcoming climate change can only be achieved through this.
The minister further pointed out that Saudi Arabia is fully prepared to cooperate with regard to fossil fuels and hydrocarbons, by creating the appropriate environment for green and blue hydrogen, stressing that the Kingdom seeks to lead the global green hydrogen market. — SG
