Dr. Leila Al-Qassem is first woman undersecretary at Islamic Affairs Ministry

RIYADH — Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Sheikh issued on Sunday an administrative order appointing Dr. Laila Bint Hamad Al-Qassem as undersecretary for planning and digital transformation at the ministry for a full year period.

This was for the first time a woman was appointed as undersecretary at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and it was regarded as a qualitative leap to empowering women to work in various sectors of Islamic affairs.

Previously, Al-Sheikh had appointed Dr. Leila at the Department of Governance, which is associated to his office.

The minister’s decision comes within the framework of his efforts to enhance the role of women in leadership positions and tasks in various sectors of the ministry and its agencies in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

It emphasizes the ministry’s keenness on activating the distinguished role of Saudi women in serving government sectors and taking advantage of them in achieving development and accomplishing the ministry’s goals.

The new appointment was also within the framework of developing the administrative work at the ministry, as well as improving the quality of services provided to beneficiaries, in addition to enhancing the principle of transparency.
