RIYADH — In support of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development in the fisheries development sector, LuLu Hypermarket, which has a presence of 23 hypermarkets in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), has confirmed its partnership of the first Saudi International Marine Exhibition & Conference (SIMEC).
Countries like Oman, UAE, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Yemen, Qatar, Iraq, Egypt and Republic of Somalia participated in the Expo, along with local and international companies from the Kingdom.
The event is the first diversified marine exhibition specialized in fisheries, aquaculture and seafood in KSA. It is taking place at the Riyadh Hilton Hotel from Jan. 30 till Feb. 1. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia, and supervised by National Fisheries Development Program.
With inputs from experts working in the field of fisheries, aquaculture, seafood and various marine industries, it complements LuLu’s efforts to promote seafood, especially locally caught fish through its stores which have state-of-the-art seafood chillers that stock fresh-caught fish from around the world including at least 80 varieties of local fish.
LuLu is participating with an information kiosk about seafood and live cooking stations that will demonstrate the preparation of seafood.
“The nutrient-rich seafood is increasingly popular as one of the pillars of the Kingdom’s food security and nutrition sectors,” said LuLu KSA Director Shehim Mohammed.
“At LuLu, we are proud of our cooperation with this important local food production area and work closely with Saudi fishing department and fleets to bring the best and largest variety of locally caught fish to our seafood divisions. This important conference will help all the stakeholders to scientifically explore ways to maximise the potential of the seafood sector.”
