RIYADH — King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) on Wednesday signed an agreement to dig 241 surface wells in Niger, which are expected to benefit 628,832 individuals.

KSrelief Assistant Supervisor General for Operations and Programs Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Beez signed the agreement at the center’s headquarters in Riyadh.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Muallem, Director of KSrelief's Health and Environmental Aid Department, said, “We today signed a contract to help Niger dig 241 surface wells with a depth of 20-30 meters as part of an initiative to serve residents through providing safe and drinkable water. The manually pumpable water will be fit for personal use and will prevent diseases resulting from polluted drinking water.”

The project also aims to dig 241 water basins for livestock, work on the stability of residents and limit migration, and increase agricultural crops, in addition to providing water bodies for the irrigation of livestock and plants, which would boost the economic development in Niger, he said.

The agreement is part of efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by KSrelief, to support all vital sectors in needy countries. — SPA
