Jiu-Jitsu star Danah Nassar to represent Saudi Arabia at Birmingham World Games

RIYADH — Danah Nassar has become the first female athlete to represent Saudi Arabia in Jiu-Jitsu competition at the 2022 World Games. She has qualified at the Asian level competition for the World Games, which will be held in Birmingham from July 7 to 17, 2022.

The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee celebrated her qualification on its official Twitter account. The committee posted her photo and commented: “To the World Games... the Saudi Jiu-Jitsu team player, weighing 48 kg, Danah Nassar officially qualifies for the 2022 World Games Birmingham after winning a medal.”

Originally scheduled to take place in July 2021, the World Games have been rescheduled for July 2022 as a result of the 2020 Summer Olympics postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jiu-Jitsu is a Japanese martial arts form involving close combat that can be used in a defensive and offensive manner.

Saudi sports has witnessed remarkable growth and achievements during the past few years. The Kingdom participated for the first time in the Winter Olympics. The alpine skier Fayik Abdi was the Kingdom’s flagbearer during the opening ceremony of the games held in Beijing last month.
