RIYADH — Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, adviser at the Saudi Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), has noted that the Kingdom provided more than $19.39 billion in humanitarian, relief, development and economic assistance to Yemen over the past few years.

Dr. Al Rabeeah made the remarks during his virtual participation representing Saudi Arabia in the Yemen Donor Conference 2022, which was held under the auspices of the United Nations, Switzerland and Sweden in Geneva on Wednesday.

The conference was held in the presence of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President of Switzerland Ignazio Cassis, Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde, UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths, and Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Abdulaziz Al-Wasel.

The supervisor general expressed Saudi Arabia’s gratitude and deep appreciation for the UN, Switzerland and Sweden for their keenness on organizing the Yemen Donor Conference 2022. He hoped the conference would find more sustainable and more profound solutions to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in Yemen and deal with its causes.

“We meet today while Yemen is facing a big humanitarian crisis, which is exacerbated by the Houthi militia’s acts of terror, which went beyond Yemen and escalated to neighboring countries,” Dr. Al Rabeeah said, adding that a firm position from the international community is required to protect the brotherly Yemeni people and reach sustainable solutions that can realize peace, security and development for the country, its people, the region and the entire world.

Dr. Al Rabeeah said: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia praises the positive procedures of the Security Council to adopt Resolution 2624 (2022), which classified the Houthi militia as a terrorist group and listed it under the weapons embargo”.

He underlined Saudi Arabia’s keenness on the security and stability of Yemen and the region, and its commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at reaching a sustainable political solution according to the three references in a way that guarantees the unity and safety of Yemen and its people.

He also said out of Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian role and its keenness on the safety of the Yemeni people, the Kingdom will continue to support Yemen with relief and humanitarian programs in coordination with the UN, as well as international and local partners. — SPA
