RIYADH — The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) is hosting in Al-Khobar from March 21 to 23, the “International Conference on Saline Water Mining” in partnership with the International Desalination Association under the patronage of the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli.

The conference aims to exchange knowledge expertise and the latest innovative technologies in extracting metals from brine resulting from the water desalination process. A group of experts, researchers and innovators are participating in the conference.

They will create a new industry trend that contributes to decreasing the capital cost, the energy consumption, as well as reducing the cubic meter production cost, how to eliminate the carbon emissions, and localizing the modern technologies through investing of the minerals such as; magnesium, cesium, rubidium, and barium used in the advanced industries and achieving the economic feasibility that goes along with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

During the conference, the Institute for Research and Desalination Technologies will unveil advanced research that contributes to the development of the desalination industry and reflects the Kingdom's global leadership in the sector and its added value, namely water desalination yield.

More than 120 researchers, scientists and experts from around the world are taking part in the global workshop organized by SWCC on the techniques of water desalination yield, during which their discussions addressed the impact of innovative technologies developed by SWCC and means to benefit from its research and expertise in developing the desalination industry, which enabled it to achieve global leadership in this sector.

They reviewed the latest developments in thermal brine concentration and mineral extraction, before concluding their visit with a tour of the institute, experimental stations (Mining Project), and some other facilities and laboratories.

The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) will grant valuable awards for the best submitted two papers, the researchers will receive two scholarships provided by the Desalination Research Institute, with funding the two papers' research, conducting their experimental tests, and covering all the researchers' expenses. — SG/SPA
