March 31, 2022

RIYADH — The Saudi Post has issued a postal stamp in the SR3 category on the occasion marking 100 years of Umm Al-Qura Newspaper.

The newspaper dates back to the time the Kingdom’s unifier King Abdulaziz entered Makkah 100 years ago. He issued directives to establish an official newspaper and name it Umm Al-Qura.

The stamp reflects a historical image referring to the first issue of the newspaper, which was published on Friday, Jamad Al-Ula 15, 1343 Hijri.

Umm Al-Qura’s importance stems from its being the first newspaper in the Saudi reign and the official media platform of the country for over a century. It became the main reliable reference for decisions and historical events in the Kingdom and for all those who want to be acquainted with the features of culture, thought and literature of the Saudi state. — SPA
