JEDDAH — A 15-year-old student died of fatal head injuries following a fight in the classroom at an intermediate school in Jeddah. The Jeddah governorate police and the Jeddah Education Department have started a probe into the incident, Okaz/Saudi Gazette has learnt.

The police received information about the quarrel between two students at the Granada Intermediate School in Ameer Fawaz district in eastern Jeddah. The quarrel and the subsequent fight between the students resulted in the death of one of them.

Sources revealed to Okaz/Saudi Gazette that one student bashed the head of the other on a table, sustaining head injuries leading to hemorrhage that caused his death. The fight occurred in the midst of other students in the third-grade intermediate classroom.

An attempt was made for artificial respiration to save his life but to no avail. The Saudi Red Crescent ambulance was immediately called in to take the student to hospital.

The Jeddah Education Department has started taking administrative measures following the incident. It was revealed that there was no teacher in the classroom when the quarrel took place.

An investigation is under way about this. The authorities are also investigating about complaints that there is no five-minute break between two periods given in Ramadan unlike other months of the academic year.
