Prophet's Minbar … landmark highlighting prophecy evidence, noble biography of last prophet

April 13, 2022

MADINAH — The Prophet's Mosque houses several monuments that are linked to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and tell facts from his noble biography after his migration to Madinah.

Al-Minbar (pulpit) is one of the monuments at the Prophet's Mosque, and its construction dates back to the eighth year of Hijri calendar, when Prophet Muhammad first used a minbar that was made of tamarix trees at the northern Madinah, which is currently called Al-Khalil.

The Prophet's Mosque, upon first ordering prayer, did not have a minbar that imams ascend to deliver their sermons, where Prophet Muhammad used to deliver the sermon while laying his back to trunk of a palm tree to show people the provisions of the Islamic Shariah through Friday sermons.

With the increasing number of worshippers and the number of those embracing Islam required Prophet Muhammad to deliver his sermons from a high place so that all attendees could see him.

Constructing the minbar was linked to the evidence of prophecy, where the Prophet's minbar is located in the western part of the Holy Rawdah and receives the same care as other parts of Rawdah.

The minbar is five meters high, where the top of the entrance of the minbar is ornamented with the phrase "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the prophet of Allah".

The front of the minbar has two steps covered with carpet and a door made of wood and stairs for imams to ascend to the minbar that is surrounded by a gold-plated fence.
