GCC, Arab Parliament condemn Suez Canal terrorist attack

RIYADH/ CAIRO — The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretay General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf on Saturday condemned the armed attack on a water-lifting plant in the Sinai Peninsula that killed and injured several armed forces personnel, calling it a “cowardly attack”.

Gulf States stand in solidarity with Egypt in confronting violence, extremism and terrorism, the secretary General of the six-nation bloc said in a statement.

He underlined the bloc’s “total rejection” of the assault, saying these acts “contradict religious and humanitarian principles and moral values.”

On behalf of the GCC, he also expressed his sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims, and to the Egypt’s government and its people, while wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

The Arab Parliament Speaker Adel Bin Abdurrahman Al-Assomi too strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist attack on a water pumping plant in the eastern Suez Canal region, which resulted in the killing of an military officer and ten soldiers, and the injury of five other.

Al-Assomi affirmed — in a statement Saturday — the Arab Parliament's solidarity with Egypt in the measures it is taking to preserve its security and stability, stressing its rejection of these cowardly terrorist acts.

He also expressed his sincere condolences to the Egyptian government and people for the martyrs of this cowardly terrorist act, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

In Abu Dhabi, the UAE has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a water lifting station, east of the Suez Canal in Egypt, which resulted in the death and injury of a number of soldiers.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) affirmed the UAE's strong condemnation of these criminal acts, and its constant rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at destabilizing security and stability, in contravention of humanitarian values and principles.

The ministry affirmed its solidarity and support with Egypt in confronting terrorists, and in taking all necessary measures to protect the country's security and stability, and eradicate this affliction.

Moreover, the ministry expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the victims' families as a result of this heinous crime, and wished a speedy recovery for all the injured.

Meanwhile, Bahrain strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist attack that targeted a water lifting station in Western Sinai in Egypt, resulting in the death and injury of a number of Egyptian armed forces soldiers.

The Foreign Ministry expressed sincere condolences to the Egyptian government, people, and families of the martyrs, wishing all those injured a speedy recovery.

It affirmed Bahrain’s solidarity with Egypt in its war against terrorism, and its full support for all the measures it takes in confronting extremist terrorist organizations and maintaining the country’s security, stability and the safety of its citizens and residents.

The ministry expressed Bahrain's pride in the Egyptian armed forces' sacrifices in protecting Egypt's security and stability, lauding the Egyptian stances in defending Arab national security, and deterring foreign interference targeting the region and its peoples.

It reiterated Bahrain’s firm rejection of violent crimes, extremism and terrorism in all its forms, calling for the need to unite the efforts of the international community in confronting this dangerous phenomenon.

The Kuwait Foreign Ministry voiced the country’s condemnation and enunciation of the terrorist assault on a water-lifting plant in the Sinai Peninsula that killed and injured several armed forces personnel.

The ministry stressed Kuwait’s solidarity with, and support to. Egypt in all measures it takes to maintain its security and stability, and to confront terrorism and extremism.

The ministry also expressed its sincere condolences to the relatives of those killed, and to the Egypt’s leadership, government and people, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. — Agnecies
