RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's specialist surgeons have successfully separated the Yemeni conjoined twins Yousef and Yassin, sons of Mohammed Abdulrahman, during a complicated, non-stop surgery that lasted 15 hours.

The 24-member team led by Dr. Mutasem Al-Zughbi who conducted the operation comprised specialists in pediatric neurosurgery, plastic surgery and anesthesia, as well as nurses and medical technicians.

The operation came in implementation of directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, who directed last week to conduct the operation on the two Yemeni siblings.

This was announced by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), Head of the Medical and Surgical Team of Siamese Separation Operations.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah confirmed that the four-phase surgery on Sunday was among the most complicated operations of this kind as the twins, who have undergone their second operation in this regard, were joined in several organs.

For their part, parents of the twins extended thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for his generosity and kindness, and wished him continuous health and happiness. — SG
