Guiding robot at Grand Mosque answers visitors’ questions in 11 languages

MAKKAH — The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, represented by the questioner guidance department, has introduced a robot that guides visitors on how to perform Umrah, provides fatwas and replies questions.

The guiding robot supports 11 languages: Arabic, English, French, Russian, Persian, Turkish, Malawi, Urdu, Chinese, Bengali, and Hausa.

The robot has the possibility of adding simultaneous interpretation for other languages and to communicate with sheikhs remotely, put several guidelines in more than one language through the remotely controlled robot.

The robot has four wheels equipped with a smart stop system that allows it to be moved easily, and it also has a system of high-definition front and down cameras for transmitting images through capturing a panoramic view of the area and high-quality speakers, and a high-quality microphone, where the robot works through WiFi network with a speed of 5 gigahertz for a quick transmission of data. — SPA
