RIYADH — Brown sugar and white sugar have no significant health differences, according to the Gulf Health Council.
The council stated that scientific evidence confirms that there are no significant health differences between them. It pointed out that a spoonful of brown sugar contains 15 calories, whereas a spoonful of white sugar contains 16 calories, and that brown sugar contains molasses, which is why it is brown. White sugar does not contain molasses, and one of the differences between brown and white sugar is that brown sugar is sweeter.
Despite these differences, the risks that contribute to many diseases, particularly obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, are identical.
