DAMMAM — A Saudi nurse rescued a young man who was about to drown in the sea in Ras Tanura in eastern Saudi Arabia on Friday.

While spending time on the beach with her family, Maryam Mahmoud Tawashi heard screams for help.

"I rushed to investigate and saw a young man being dragged away by the waves," Tawashi said.

"We managed to pull the man out and bring him to the shore. When I felt his pulse and breathing, I discovered that his heartbeat had stopped. I performed CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) immediately. I sought the help of another person who was present at the scene to assist with artificial breathing. I also asked someone to call the Red Crescent immediately," she said.

"Thank God, the man started breathing and his heartbeat restored almost a quarter of an hour after it had stopped,” she added.

"After restoring the person's pulse and breathing rate, I placed him in the recovery position, where the fluid stored in his lungs was released," Tawashi continued. "Soon a Red Crescent ambulance arrived at the scene and the man was shifted to Ras Tanura General Hospital, where he was given the essential treatment."
