RIYADH — The General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars denounced the statements of the spokesperson of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that they are offensive to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

In a statement issued on Monday, Saudi Arabia’s highest religious body urged Muslims to introduce Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as a messenger of God who was sent as a mercy to the entire mankind.

The council described the Prophet as a man of outstanding character and reiterated that nobody can defame him by blasphemous remarks.

It cited several verses from the Holy Qur’an that highlight the noble status of the Prophet (PBUH) and God’s sayings about preserving this exalted position.

These verses are the most eloquent response to those who try to offend the Prophet’s honor and dignity, and about whom God described by saying: “And you are of great character,” it said.

The council quoted the following verses from the Holy Qur’an while reemphasizing that God Almighty has preserved the position of Muhammad (PBUH): “Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers.” “But Allah will spare you their evil. For He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” “And elevated your renown for you.” “Only the one who hates you is truly cut off from any goodness.”

Referring to the Prophet’s stature as a mercy to the entire humanity, the council called on Muslims to introduce the Prophet, as well as his lofty message and his fragrant biography that is replete with his noble qualities of goodness, righteousness and mercy for all people.

In this respect, it quoted the verses from the Qur’an. “We have sent you (O Prophet) only as a mercy for the whole world.” “Only those, who believe in him, honor and support him, and follow the light sent down to him will be successful.” “And you are truly (a man) of outstanding character.”
