MANILA — A Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) plane, flying out of Riyadh, veered off the runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Monday afternoon.

According to Nimfa Ravelo’s report on dzBB’s Super Radyo, the Boeing 777-368 aircraft with flight number SV862 landed in Manila at around 1:47 p.m. and was en route to NAIA Terminal 1 when the incident occurred.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), in its incident report, said six right landing gears of the plane went off the pavement at the end portion of the taxiway onto the grassy portion, causing its wheels to get stuck in the process.

All 420 passengers and crew of the flight were safe. They were immediately shuttled from the site going to Terminal 1 where passengers were taken to get their baggage.

Saudia confirmed that the plane skidded off the runway leading to the terminal after safely landing at Ninoy Aqino International airport.

The Saudi Arabian Airlines said in a statement that “the aircraft is now at the terminal gate and going through technical evaluation by the concerned authorities to ensure the utmost safety in preparation for its return to service.”

Airport officials including MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Director General Capt. Jim Sydiongco went to the site to supervise the recovery operations.

MIAA said the aircraft has been recovered and is now positioned at the paved portion of the taxiway and is being prepared to be towed.

Monreal assured the public that the situation is now under control and the recovery operations were carried out following the international standards on aircraft recovery. — SG with inputs from agencies
