JEDDAH — The Committee for the Random Districts in the Jeddah Governorate announced that the razing of slums and random neighborhoods is progressing on schedule in accordance with the executive plan.

The demolition of slums in seven out of the remaining 12 neighborhoods started after the holy month of Ramadan. These districts are Bani Malik, Al-Wurud, Mushrifah, Jamia, Al-Rawabi, Aziziyah and Al-Rehab.

The committee had previously announced a change in the schedule for serving notices to the residents, disconnecting utility services, removal of slums and disposal of rubble from a number of neighborhoods, which included Muntazahat, Quwaizah, Al-Adl and Al-Fadl, Umm Salam and North Kilo 14.

The process of serving notices and the disconnection of electricity and water services will be completed before razing the remaining neighborhoods in accordance with the previously announced operational plan. The first phase of the Jeddah redevelopment project includes 32 slums and random neighborhoods, of which 20 have been leveled. The process of serving notices and disconnection of services is under various phases of implementation in the remaining 12 neighborhoods.

The Jeddah Mayoralty had set timelines for serving notices for the residents of various neighborhoods that are identified for demolition. Before the start of the month of Ramadan, the committee had finished razing 20 slums and random neighborhoods and then announced a halt to the demolition work until the end of the Eid Al-Fitr holidays.

The mayoralty has reiterated its commitment to the details of the time-bound implementation plan for the demolition of the slums and random districts in the governorate on the specified dates for the 12 remaining neighborhoods. The demolition of the buildings and removal of the rubble will be completed in all targeted neighborhoods in Jeddah by the previously announced deadline of Nov. 17, 2022.

The mayoralty aims to remove random neighborhoods on a total area of 18.5 million square meters, in addition to the slums located within the plots of land of the King Abdulaziz Endowment for Al-Ain Al-Aziziyah, in eight neighborhoods covering a total area of 13.9 million square meters. These neighborhoods come within the first phase of the Jeddah Redevelopment Plan, which includes 32 slums and random districts.
