Biden renews commitment for two-state solution in Mideast

July 13, 2022

RAMALLAH — US President Joseph Biden affirmed on Wednesday his deep commitment to the two-state solution for the Middle East, saying that a general atmosphere of dialogue and stability should be set for peace to prevail.

In a speech delivered after arrival to Israel, Biden reiterated his country's commitment to Israel's security, noting that the United States would look into venues to bolster ties on all possible domains.

Back on the Middle East process, Biden stressed that the errors of the past should not be repeated to reach peace.

On his part, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid deemed Biden's visit as "historical", adding that Biden's speech reflected the strength of ties between the United States and Israel.

Lapid said that the visit should also renew a global commitment to prevent Iran from continuing its nuclear program.

Biden's visit to Israeli is the first since becoming US President. He would be meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas next Friday. — Agencies
