MAKKAH — A medical team from the Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Makkah successfully removed a large tumor in the cervix of an Indonesian Hajj pilgrim, the Ministry of Health has announced.

The tumor was detected after the 47-year-old woman came to the emergency room suffering from severe bleeding, the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added that after conducting necessary tests, it was found out that the woman had a large tumor growing in her cervix. She was also suffering from anemia as a result of severe bleeding due to the presence of the tumor.

The Indonesian pilgrim underwent quick surgical intervention to remove the tumor and replace the lost blood, the ministry said.

The medical team at the Makkah hospital performed an urgent surgery on the pilgrim to remove the tumor, which was the cause of her bleeding. The tumor, measuring 10 x 15 cm and weighing 1 kg, was hanging outside the woman’s vagina.

The operation to remove the tumor took an hour and a half. She was given four units of blood, said the ministry, confirming that the pilgrim's health condition has been good after the operation.
