RIYADH Saudi Arabia welcomed the extension of the truce in Yemen for an additional two months, and stressed the importance of opening humanitarian crossings in Taizz.

The Kingdom’s Foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the truce aims primarily to reach a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Yemen and start the political process between the Yemeni government and the Houthis.

“The Kingdom appreciates the efforts of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, in strengthening commitment to the truce sponsored by the United Nations, in line with the Saudi initiative announced in March 2021 to end the crisis in Yemen and reach a comprehensive political solution.”

The ministry stressed the Kingdom's firm and supportive position on everything that guarantees the security and stability of Yemen and achieves the aspirations of the Yemeni people.

It also noted the importance of the Houthis' commitment to the terms of the current truce and the speedy opening of crossings in Taizz to alleviate human suffering in it, and deposit revenues in the Central Bank of Yemen to pay.
