ISLAMABAD — At least eight people were killed and 18 others received injuries in a blast that occurred in Afghanistan's capital city Kabul on Friday.

The spokesman of the Kabul Police Command, Khalid Zadran in a statement to media said that a blast occurred in the Sarkariz area of Kabul's police district 6.

He confirmed that explosive devices were placed in a cart killing eight people and injuring 18 others. "The explosion happened in a crowded place," he added.

According to local media Dawn news, the so-called Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for a deadly blast.

The group has claimed that the death toll is higher than confirmed by the government.

The blast occurred days after US President Joe Biden confirmed the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahri in a US military drone strike in Afghanistan. — Agencies
