RIYADH —
The Council of Health Insurance has warned that tanning and exposure to the sun in incorrect ways may lead to sunburn.

The council's warning came while revealing the information and dangers of body tanning, in addition to clarifying the types of tanning.

Tanning is divided into two parts, namely: external tanning, which is the tanning of the body by the usual way of getting under the sunlight, and the second is internal tanning, through which the person can use a tanning bed or multiple tanning creams to get darkened skin color.

The council said that exposure to the sun for the purpose of tanning may expose a person to potential damage.

Unprotected exposure to the sun may lead to rapid aging of the skin, in addition to the possibility of damage to the eyes if the individual does not wear sunglasses, as well as getting infected with skin cancer.

The council explained the ways to protect from the sun's rays, noting the importance of applying sunscreen 15 minutes before going out or being exposed to the sun, in addition to wearing sunglasses, and wearing a protective hat to protect the head in order to avoid sunstrokes.
