WASHINGTON — The only way to achieve a mutual return to compliance with the JCPOA is for Iran to drop further unacceptable demands that go beyond the scope of the JCPOA, said spokesman for US Department of State Ned Price on Monday.

"We have long called these demands extraneous, they have no place in Vienna, they have no place in the discussions regarding a potential return to compliance with the JCPOA," he added.

The president has been clear and steadfast that the Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) designation and other sanctions on Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are beyond the scope of the JCPOA, he elaborated.

"To give you just one example, if Iran wants these sanctions lifted, they will need to alter their underlying conduct, they will need to change the dangerous activities that gave rise to these sanctions in the first place.

"If we do manage to effect a mutual return to compliance with the JCPOA, we'll continue to confront IRGC's threats using including the sanctions that will remain in place but other relevant tools as well," he concluded.

Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani said Iran's negotiations with world powers made a tangible progress, but did not meet all Iran's legitimate demands. — Agencies
