RIYADH — The Saudi Center for Organ Transplant (SCOT) has successfully saved the lives of 5 patients after a Saudi citizen agreed to donate the organs of his 20 years old, brain-dead daughter.

The SCOT stated that the 5 patients were having an organic deficiency disease, while adding that they have removed 4 organs from the brain-dead girl, and 5 patients benefited from it.

The organs that the patients have benefited from are the heart, kidneys, lungs and the liver.

Another initiative of saving lives was successfully completed, as the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced Monday that a medical team has transferred the organs of a brain-dead patient at Al-Qunfudhah General Hospital to another patient at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh.

The MOH noted that this operation of transferring the organs at Al-Qunfudhah Governorate is considered as one of its kind, as the ministry conducted several steps, such as coordinating with the brain-dead donor' family, and preparing the operating room prior to the transfer.

During the operation, the ministry stated that they received help from a specialized medical team through the air evacuation, and prepared a field ambulance team to follow up the transport procedure to complete the organs transferring operation.

It is noteworthy that this operation comes in line with the goals of the organ donation program of SCOT, which was established by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman.

King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman have registered in the organ donation program in order to encourage the Saudi citizens and residents to register in the program to decrease the waiting list for the patients whose recovery process depends on new organ transplant.
