September 03, 2022

NEW YORK — A Beechcraft King Air landed safely at a field in Ripley city after circling at low altitude over Tupelo city, northeast Mississippi State, in the southeastern region of the United States, on Saturday.

The pilot, who threatened to crash the twin-turboprop aircraft into a Walmart store in Tupelo, has been arrested and held under custody, according to Tupelo Police Dept.

After contacting the pilot, law enforcers evacuated the store and a nearby petrol station and were able to convince him to change his mind.

The whole area of Tupelo city was declared a danger zone with all emergency services being put on high alert, the police said.

Investigations are underway into the motives of the pilot, they noted, adding that the accident resulted in neither damage nor casualties. —Agencies
