Dr. Al-Rabeeah, Vitorino signed deal to support protection of displaced people, migrants

NEW YORK — Advisor at the Royal Court and General Supervisor of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah met here Wednesday with Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Antonio Vitorino, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York City.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance aspects of joint cooperation between the two sides, as well as a number of issues of common interest related to the humanitarian and relief field.

The two sides signed a joint executive program to support the protection of displaced people, migrants and host communities in Yemen, with a value of $4 million.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah stressed that the program comes as part of the efforts of Saudi Arabia, represented by the KSrelief, to provide all forms of aid to the Yemeni people to alleviate their suffering.

He added that it is also one of the joint programs between the KSrelief and the IOM aiming to help Yemeni people.

Vitorino praised the close relationship and strategic cooperation between the IOM and the KSrelief, praising the KSrelief's continuous support for the IOM's efforts to alleviate the suffering of the displaced and affected people around the world.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah also met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Rabeeah reviewed the humanitarian and relief efforts provided by the KSrelief around the world, as well as ways to develop international humanitarian response mechanisms during the crises.

They also discussed the challenges facing the international humanitarian and relief work and best practices to address them. Griffiths praised the experience and efficiency of the KSrelief in the field of humanitarian work. — SPA
