JEDDAH — The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) stressed that the daily consumption of Saudi coffee for adults should not exceed 15 cups.

The Authority said that according to reviews of scientific evidence from the National Nutrition Committee at the Authority. It concluded that a cup of Saudi coffee contains 26 of caffeine and that the daily consumption rate should not exceed 400 milligrams.

It recommended that coffee and its components of cardamom, cloves, saffron and ginger should be stored in an airtight container or container made of ceramic or stainless steel, to avoid sunlight.

It also should be stored in a dry place or a freezer to avoid the growth of fungi.

The Authority gave tips when preparing Saudi coffee to ensure its safety. It said one should not use the pot for anything else, such as putting another liquid in it because this may expose the coffee to the risk of contamination. Also the pot should be kept clean.

The Authority advised patients with cardiovascular diseases to limit the consumption of products with a high content of caffeine, and not to exceed its quantity (200 milligrams) per day.
