CAIRO — The Arab Parliament Saturday re-elected Adel Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi as its speaker for a new two-year term of office.
Al-Asoumi collected 51 votes at a special session attended by 66 members and designed to choose the speaker of the parliament and four deputies.
The Arab Parliament is scheduled to hold its first meeting following the elections on Oct. 4, 2022.
The Arab Parliament also announced the election of a member of the Saudi Shoura Council, Hazza Bin Bakr Al-Qahtani, as First Deputy Speaker for a period of two years.
This came in the procedural session devoted to electing a speaker of the Arab Parliament, its four deputies, and heads of committees, Saturday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League.
During the session, Jordanian MP Khalil Attia was elected as second deputy speaker of the parliament, Iraqi MP Shaalan Abdul-Jabbar Al-Karim as third deputy speaker, and Egyptian MP Alaa Abed as fourth deputy speaker. — SPA
