RIYADH — Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC) President Dr. Hala bint Mazyad Al-Tuwaijri highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts in human rights and the successive legislative reforms that it has adopted in this regard. She stressed that this comes out of the keenness of the wise leadership on protecting and promoting human rights and consolidating the principles of justice and equality.

Dr. Al-Tuwaijri made the remarks during her meeting with the Middle East and Gulf Working Group of the European Council, headed by Dr. Till Blume and Calin Mitri, here on Sunday. Several delegates of the Council’s task force also attended the meeting, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The HRC chief emphasized that the Kingdom has made qualitative leaps in various fields of human rights in an embodiment of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which has taken the human being as the core of its development.

She said that the developments in the Kingdom are aimed at raising the quality of life, taking care of various segments of society, and empowering women to be essential partners in development. “Empowering women, enhancing their rights and activating their role in the national economy witnessed multiple leaps, in addition to the reforms achieved in the protection of the rights of children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, combating trafficking in persons, and developing a system of specialized legislation,” Dr. Al-Tuwaijri said while noting that this reflects the Kingdom’s concern for human rights and their protection, in a way strengthening its regional and international position in this field.
