RIYADH — As the contestants raced with tremendous excitement to win the top positions and earn their medals in 45 items, the women's 49kg weightlifting competition recorded the first coronation in the history of the greatest national sporting event.

Princess Dilayel bint Nahar bin Saud, Saudi Games' Deputy Director General, crowned the 49 kg women's weightlifting competition winners. This was followed by other team and individual events on which the zealous contestants focused attention.

King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh will host the formal opening ceremony of the largest national Olympic sporting event on Friday.

The ceremony will feature the largest sports parade in the Kingdom, festive artistic performances, fireworks, and a wide range of exhilarating and varied activities that keep pace with the significance and scope of this first national sporting event of its kind. — SPA
